Shooting in Midday Tropical Sun Without Harsh Shadows
Find or make open shade
Porches, alley walls, and tree lines give directional light that still has size. Direct overhead sun is a last resort for portraits — we scout shade first.
Bounce and diffusion
A white wall, a 5-in-1 reflector, or a thin scrim can turn hard sun into a single large source. We bring compact tools on location so we are not guessing.
Angle and distance
Backing up a few steps and using a longer focal length often cleans up backgrounds faster than cranking contrast in post.
Exposure for skin
We protect highlights on cheeks and shoulders, then lift shadows carefully. Tropical noon punishes clipped channels — we meter with that in mind.
At ZED studio
We plan call times around sun paths when we can. When we cannot, we still deliver files that look like the day felt — not like a filter pack.
